Questions to ask first
- Does the caller represent your insurer or another person’s insurer?
- Is this a recorded interview, an information request, or a written form?
- What deadline or policy provision are they relying on?
- Can they send the request in writing?
Be accurate
Do not guess about speed, distances, diagnoses, or facts you do not remember. Keep copies of correspondence and notes about calls.
Review your obligations
Your own policy may impose cooperation duties and deadlines. Do not ignore a request based on general website guidance. Ask about the actual policy and request before deciding how to respond.
